Spituk Monastery, better known as Spituk Gompa or Pethup Gompa, is a Buddhist monastery in Leh district, just 8 km away from the town of Leh. Founded by Od-de, it dates back to the 11th Century. Initially, the monastery was founded as Red Hat Moanstic institution but later it was taken over by the Gelugpa (Yellow Hat) order in 15th century. The monastery is comprised of 100 monks and a giant statue of Hindu deity Kali, which is unveiled during the annual Spituk festival.
